Emily Turns 8

On Saturday, I took Emily to Disneyland for her birthday. Its free for her.. so I just had to pay for me. We never get to spend one-on-one time together, so it was very fun to be together for the day. She was more interested in eating and picking out her "birthday present" than she was in going on the rides. So we rode only rides with a 20 minute or less wait. Her favorites were Pirates and The Haunted Mansion. Around 7:00 she was ready to come home...

Bjoern's Face Dive

We have had alot of fun with our German students so far. In the pool the other night Dan was showing the kids how to run and slide on the air-matress. Then he pulls it away at the last minute causing a belly flop... or in this case... a face flop.

Wild Rivers

On Thursday I took the kids to a water park in Irvine for the afternoon. Reed went with his school at the end of the school year but other than that our kids had never been to a water park. They had a great time and although Heidi is 42 inches tall and not the required 44 inches, we were able to get her on some of the larger rides. I dont think I will be going back anytime soon, though. Just the thought of being in the same water as some of the people there was enough to make you want to shower 3 times when you got home.

German Invasion 2009

On Saturday, we picked up our new foreign exchange students from Germany. They are from the Hamburg area. Bjorn (17) and Melanie (14) are brother and sister. So far they have entertained us with a piano recital and a Cha-Cha Dance. We have entertained them with swimming and Ruckus killing a rat- live before their very eyes- 2 hours after they arrived. Their father is the Mayor of their town and their Mother is a religion teacher in their school. Here is a travel weary picture of them from the first day they arrived. They are staying in Ashley's room in bunk beds. They are very nice and polite and we look forward to a fun month with them. They have been to New York, but nowhere else in America. So we will be sure to show them the "Wild West", including bears and snakes in Yosemite and Zions. I am sure you will see them in more posts.

Lisa's Birthday

For my birthday, I decided to take advantage of Disney and go for free. I have been planning on this for the entire year. Two days before my birthday, Dan thought it would be funny to push me into the pool in the shallow end.... and I bruised my heel. Thus, rendering me handicap. I refused to let this stop me and hobbled around Disney in my Birkenstocks. I intentionally went alone. I am sick of worrying about everyone else... and was curious to see what I would do it I only had to think of myself. First thing I did was go to New Orleans Square to get the coveted Monte Cristo Sandwich for lunch. Ahhhhhggggg......
I then went on Pirates and then over to Calif. Disney the rest of the day.... since I will be bringing Emily to Disneyland for her birthday in 2 weeks. I rode the Californiascreamin' over and over again. I had a great time and decided I want to go more places by myself. These people I live with are stifeling me! I am not made for housework and cleaning! I also noticed my first wrinkle today :{ I blame this too on these people I live with. ( And lack of sunscreen)...

Birthday Festivities

On Saturday we met with family at Lake Mission Viejo, for a Birthdaypalooza. It is my birthday, Emily's birthday and (sis-in-law) Julie's birthday... all in July. So rather than go through the painstaking ordeal of 3 birthday parties.. we had one. We had pizza & cake. The kids played in the lake and we sat. Ahhhhh.... sitting......

Rats (gross)

I was talking to the neighbor the other day and he was complaining about hearing rats in his attic. Well, evidently one wandered into our yard two days ago and Ruckus took matters into his own hands. The kids found it yesterday and with visitors in town (Jennet, sis and Brad,bro-in-law) Dan could not resist the urge to tease them. Brad is especially fun to taunt with gross things because he throws up at anything. So, Dan picked up the rat in foil and when we pulled up to the house after dinner he brought it out to show Brad. The following is a video series (brought to you by Discovery Channel) of what happened next.

Dan was acting like a rat while holding it up to the window.

Brad trying not to hurl in his own car.

The only thing left of dinner was bits of tomato and cilantro in his sinuses.
